Digital Farming is a newly established global unit created in Yara Crop Nutrition with locations in Europe, Brazil, Singapore, and North America, building new digital business models and identifying new digital products, enhance customer interaction and achieve digitally enabled functional excellence, with the aspiration to shape Yara as the digital leader in crop nutrition. We build solutions for farmers, construct hardware and sensors, crunch satellite data, apply artificial intelligence, and turn research results into solutions. Our teams is made of designers, software engineers, hardware developers, data scientists, solution managers and product owners. Smallholder Market Digital Solutions There are more than 500 million smallholder farms globally with at least 2 billion people depending on them for their livelihoods. In many of these segments, agricultural productivity is up to 10 times less than developed markets. The smallholder focused solutions teams have the exciting challenge to develop digital solutions with the focus on increasing productivity through optimal crop nutrition and knowledge transfer.

Responsibilities

The Senior Solution Architect translates requirements into architecture elements and describes it through architecture and design artifacts. The Senior Solution Architect also ensures software development teams use the right technologies for rapid prototyping, building products, platforms and user-centric services that solve the needs of the 21st century farmer around the world. The Senior Solution Architect acts as a technical leader for the development team and provides technical advisory leadership and insight when required. Organizational Setting The Senior Solution Architect – reports to the Head of Digital Factory Asia (Singapore) Responsibilities Creates and owns the solutions' blueprints by translating requirements into the solution architecture designs Defines, owns and evolves the solution stack(s) Chooses development tools (e.g. version control, IDE, testing, etc) and infrastructure Ensure stakeholders inputs are taken into account when choosing and creating the above items Pragmatic approach in case some of the above items are chosen before the Solution Technical Architect formally starts The Solution Architect will work across several solutions. Thus, she or he must ensure there is as much technical synergy as possible between the different assets created and teams using them Ensure architectures and designs are well understood and ultimately secures buy-in by all relevant team members Serve as technical guidance and motivation of the development team Be able to take any of the development team roles when necessary Support management in risks, assumptions, issues and dependencies assessments Stay up to date with relevant industry and technology trends Ensure technical lessons learned and best practices are discovered, documented and shared across all teams Ensure the solution follows copyright and licensing requirements from any third party tool used by the software development team and its deliverable

Profile

University degree in a relevant academic discipline You have 6 years or more as a Software Technical Architect or similar role Strong experience in our solution stack which includes: Javascript, Node.js, ReactJS, ReactNative. Ideally also have experience in Python-Django and native mobile development for iOS and Android Effective communicator of technical concepts to both technical and non-technical resources Able to work with various - and potentially conflicting - inputs from all stakeholders Proven success in defining and evolving solution architecture and design of agile software solutions with focus on mobile driven solutions Able to do both research as well as hands-on (rather than on paper) technology assessments and proofs of concepts Ideally have grown into Software Technical Architecture role from software development roles Still enjoys hands-on development Strong understanding and experience selecting and using wide range of software development technologies and concepts such as service oriented architecture, single page applications, DevOps, micro services, message queues, machine learning, geospatial data, source code, APIs, cloud platforms, test driven development, continuous integration, RDBMS vs NoSQL, etc. Able to ‘jump-in’ into other positions such as software developer or DevOps engineer if necessary Strong understanding of copyright and licensing options and ability to assess when and how to (re)use already existing products from third parties within the legal framework of their license Experience with documenting architecture and design for the solution needs (including software development, infrastructure, testing, etc.) Sound understanding of best practices and superior judgment skills to decide when to use them and how Experience working in a fast-paced, digital, agile development environment You like to actively participate in an agile setup to develop software in a team and you value pragmatic approaches, discussions, and knowledge sharing Ideally, you have more than one year of experience in working in a start-up environment on site as team member. You have 3 years of more experience with modern, large scale software projects Passion to make a difference through connecting with millions of users. Understanding of low LSM users, agriculture and mobile technologies is highly advantageous International experience advantageous (e.g., living / working in foreign country, working in highly international and cross-cultural environment) preferred Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English
