Ammonia Technologist

About the Unit

Yara Project Office is a part of the Production segment, located in different places with main location in Brussels. The unit manages a portfolio of projects of various size and complexity for Yara’s plants or other units - either on their own or with the support of external engineering companies – and provides technical support to the plants.

For our Process & Engineering Department we are looking for an Ammonia Technologist.

The key aspect of this position is to ensure continuous development, implementation and design of the relevant Technology.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the development, engineering and administration of all feasibility, conceptual design, engineering, plant assistance and construction related to the development of any and all facilities operated by Yara.


  • Be fully aware of the Yara and Project HES requirements. Ensure that HES is considered as priority. Ensure that all engineering activities and works are done in full compliance with the HES and Quality Requirements, Steering System, of Yara, Projects and relevant authorities;
  • Give input to cost estimates, physical and non physical, and project control activities, especialy during the feasibility and concept study phase of a project. Work closely with the Technology Manager;
  • Support YPO process engineers within the concerned technology area. Provide technical support to the production units upon request in close cooperation with the Technology Manager and TPO’s. Participate in the evaluation of proposals for plant performance improvement;
  • Participate in the evaluation of projects for business development. Keep updated on technology development by establishing/investigating/keeping business relationships. Assessing these new developments for their relevance of our projects and plants;
  • Contribute actively to the economical/technical procurement of services and goods in close collaboration with the Procurement department. Inform the Technology Manager concerning existing and new developments and technologies and the possible applications in the different (production) units;
  • Participate in troubleshooting and failure analysis based upon request.


  • Bachelor or higher degree in Chemical Engineering. Member of a Chemical Engineering Institute or necessary qualifications for Professional Engineering status;
  • At least five years of industrial experience including a period of time in operations in the ammonia;
  • Experience in the execution of pre-feasibility and feasibility studies. Experience in the design, construction and commissioning/implementation of projects;
  • Experience in process simulation is desirable.Experience in project engineering;
  • Willingness to travel in an international environment;
  • Good communication/persuasions skills;     
  • Eagerness to learn from experience;
  • Fluency in English in reading and writing; additional language skills is an asset.
